Child Restraint Laws on Golf Carts

Under this permit:                                                                                                  

  • A passenger less than 6 months old must be restrained in a rearward facing infant restraint, located in the front seat and secured to an engineered anchor point and fitted seatbelt.
  • A passenger at least 6 months old, but less than 4 years old must be restrained in an approved forward facing child restraint and secured to an engineered anchor point and fitted seatbelt.
  • A passenger at least 4 years old, but less than 7 years old must be restrained in either an approved forward facing child restraint or by a fitted seatbelt.
  • A passenger 4 years old or older must not occupy the front passenger seating position if there is another passenger who is less than 4 years old.
  • The driver of the golf cart must hold a valid class C provisional or open driver licence or a driver licence that corresponds to class C provisional or open driver licence.
  • Only 4 passengers are permitted in the buggy at any one time.


Child restraints are available for rent from the Buggy Hire shop or via the valet service for $15 per day (capped at $60).  If you prefer to hire via the valet service, this needs to be organised prior to your arrival.  Please indicate this on your booking, so the required information can be provided to organise this.

Please note the following penalties may apply should a person be caught committing these offences and not following the Queensland transport rules.

Not wearing a seatbelt (passenger over 16 years)

Passenger not wearing a seatbelt (driver)

The driver is liable for any passenger who does not wear a seatbelt or appropriate restraint

Fine of at least $353 and 3 demerit points (for each unrestrained driver passenger)

Child not properly restrained (on a lap or not in an appropriate child restraint)

Fine of at least $353 and 3 demerit points (for each unrestrained child)

Drink driving/ Drug driving

Open licence holder – 0.05 or more BAC

Provisional licence holder – over zero BAC

Must attend court proceeding on mainland.

Licence disqualification applies

Driving without a valid driver licence

Must attend court proceeding on mainland.

Licence disqualification applies

Driving on the wrong side of the road

Fine of at least $94 and 2 demerit points
